What personal data we collect and why we collect it

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

I keep contact form submissions for 2 years for customer service purposes, but I do not use the information submitted through them for marketing purposes – you will not be added to my mailing list.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

On my website, if you click the ‘Shop’ tab, followed by the ‘Shop the Collection’ button, you will be redirected to my Etsy Shop on the Etsy.com website. Once you are using the Etsy website, you will under their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and any data you give them will also fall within their Privacy Policy. This can be viewed here: Etsy Privacy Policy

Google Analytics is a piece of software that grabs data about my visitors (you). It’s something like an advanced server log. I use Google Analytics on my website.

What does Google Analytics record?

  • What website you came from to get here.
  • How long you stay for.
  • What kind of computer you’re using.
  • And a few other things.

What do I do with your data?

The tracking information allows me to better understand the kind of people who come to my site and what content they’re looking at. This allows me to make better decisions about the design and content of my website.

Occasionally, I will compile aggregate statistics about the number of visitors this site receives and browsers being used. No personally identifying data is included in this type of reporting.

All of my activity falls within the bounds of the Google Analytics Terms of Service.

Mail Chimp

If you have requested to be added to my mailing list, you have agreed for me to process the ‘personal data’ that is your email address. This was made clear either through Mailchimp when you signed up on my website, or on the (legible) small print of the paper slip you filled out at a fair or event. I retain these paper slips for two years where I will ask you again if you would still like to be subscribed to the mailing list. After this date, the slips will be no longer relevant and I will destroy them by shredding.

I use Mailchimp to send out a Newsletter very infrequently (a handful of times per year). You have the option of unsubscribing at the bottom of every newsletter. Only the data controller (Claire Heapy) has access to this Mailchimp account and the personal data within it. It is not shared with anyone else.

Who we share your data with

The ‘data controller’ (Claire Heapy) does not share your personal data (eg. email address, name) with anyone.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Your contact information

The data controller is Claire Heapy, and can be contacted here: claire@thepeahensnest.com

Additional information

How we protect your data

Data you enter through the ‘Contact form’ is held in the inbox of the Controller, Claire Heapy, and is shared with no one else. This is kept on a few PC and mobile devices which are password protected and never shared with any one else. They are protected by Anti Virus software.

Data Collection in person at Fairs & Events

Any personal data given to me in person at an event, you will see me write this on an Enquiry Form. I will retain and process this data as it is necessary to the ‘contract’ with you. All that is meant by the word  ‘contract’, is that you gave me your data for a reason (to discuss a possible commission). These Enquiry forms are kept in a hidden box in my studio within my home. These are never shown or shared with anyone else. I do not use this information for marketing purposes (you will not be added to my mailing list, unless you request that you would like to be.) I keep these Enquiry Forms for a maximum of 2 years where they will be reviewed and if not found to be relevant, I will destroy them by shredding.
